I’m probably the worst packer known to man BUT I’d like to think this list I made is a handy guide when for packing for a summer vacation or city break. Obviously luggage limits exist for a reason but I hope this provides you with a little guidance…
The Essentials
- Passport – Or driving license if it’s a domestic flight.
- Travel documents – Hotel/Flight/Excursion details. I’m extra and I like to bind mine, put one in my suitcase and have one in my hand luggage. It’s all well and good having it on your phone, but sometimes it’s great to have something tangible you can scribble on.
- Camera (Optional waterproof cover too) – Don’t forget batteries or your charger.
- Phone – Doubles as entertainment, GPS, translator and to inspire holiday envy on Instagram.
- Kindle and charger – Or a good old book you can get wet in the pool…
- Plugs – I recommend bringing an adaptor which you can plug two or more things at once, hotels seem to have a lack of plug points.
Clothing
- Vest tops
- Shorts
- Linen trousers or jeans if you dare…
- Skirts
- Mini dresses
- Maxi dresses
- Evening dresses – Especially if you wanna go all out, alternatively you can jazz up a day dress with a statement necklace or pair of earrings.
- Swimwear
- Beach towel – Always check if your hotel provides these before taking otherwise you have more room to bring back souvenirs.
- Sarong
- Night wear
- Dressing gown – Most hotels provide these, but if you wanna feel at home, take your own…
- Bath towel
- Underwear
- Bras and multi-bra – Or you can just tuck your straps in (I do this because I’m lazy).
- Slips – To stop that dress or skirt riding up…
- Evening bag – Your day bag is probably covered in sand so an evening clutch is a must!
- Day bag
- Sun hat
- Necklaces
- Earrings
Shoes
- Flip flops – For the beach!
- Sandals – Break them in before because blisters on holiday are HELL!
- Plimsoles – Old Converses or trainers should do…
- Wedges – Stilettos + sand = NO
Toiletries
- Toothbrush
- Toothpaste
- Mouthwash
- Floss
- Perfume – Mini bottles you get free with magazines are a great way to save space…
- Facial Skin care
- Nail polish – A bright colour makes your tan POP – I love OPI’s Big Apple Red.
- Hand sanitiser – This is a lifesaver if you can’t get to any water.
- Baby wipes – Useful for just anything!
- Tweezers
- First aid kit
- Sewing kit
- Deodorant
- Razor
- Cotton wool
- Showergel
- Cream
- Sunscreen – An absolute must!
- Shampoo/Conditioner – The ones in hotels are generally crap, so I’d recommend decanting your own into smaller bottles.
- Hair brush
- Comb
- Head tie
- Shower cap
- Straighteners – Unless you want to go au naturel…
- Hair products
- Hair sunscreen
- Travel sickness pills
- Painkillers – A must… I don’t trust any medication I come across abroad tbh.
- Juice bottle – Useful for pre-drinking on the way to the club/bar/beach…
- Swimming hat
