Musings: Holy Grail Nails

In my rampant effort to get more beauty posts written, I thought I’d do a series on my holy grail products. First up is nails…

Tickle My France-y – OPI
Nude nail colours sooth my soul, bring peace to my world and make everything harminious… even if it’s just for a little moment. It’s only in recent years I’ve been able to find the perfect nude for my skintone. I’m NC45 in Mac for reference and I always find that the nude colours are for fairer skintones. Not that there is anything wrong with this, but us with deeper complexions and different undertones can’t really rock those nudes with as much ease.

OPI’s Tickle My France-y is a pinky nude with a creme finish and I absolutely LOVE the way this looks on my nails. This would look great on olive, tan and golden skin tones as a nude but a pink on fairer skin tones and a mauve on deeper skin tones. This is the colour I reach for most and one I get most comments on surprisingly, so I guess it ‘pays’ to find something that suits you.
Other close contenders are:
Barry M’s Lychee or Mushroom and OPI’s Over the Taupe and Dulche De Leche.
Big Apple Red – OPI
The is the colour I reach for when I just want that added ‘pop’ of colour to my outfit. I’m not a fan of bright colours (even though I seem to own a ton of nail polish colours) as I don’t think they suit me. But there is something about OPI’s Big Apple Red that makes me feel elegant, classic and glamorous all in one. As I’ve mentioned above about finding the right nude shade for your skin tone can do absolute wonders, this is definitely the perfect red for all. Much like Mac’s Ruby Woo lipstick, Big Apple Red looks great on pretty much on all skin tones and is great for all occasions. I love Big Apple Red all year round due to its high shine, perfect hue and it’s longevity but most of all, it’s just so glam.

And for when I like stepping over the darker side, nothing beats this black polish from Essie called Licorice. Yum.

One of my tips before buying nail polish online is to type the shade name and skintone into Google Images to get an idea of what it’ll look like on you. For example, I would type in ‘OPI Bubble Bath on medium skin‘ and it’d give me a vague idea whether to order it or not.

I hope you enjoyed this post as it was something a little different for me (for once). Let me know your favourite nail colour by commenting below or on Twitter.
