One of my goals for 2016 was to travel solo and I am proud to say that I achieved this with my trip to Milan in April. One of things I love doing on planes is listening to music as it helps me get to sleep (and stay asleep) especially on long flights. Sometimes watching movies takes too much concentration and there is nothing more beautiful than staring out a plane or train window with beautiful views look this:
Jakatta – American Dream
This is from the American Beauty soundtrack and it is so so soothing. I’d recommend listening to this in the morning or whenever you need to calm down or chill out.
Rihanna – Desperado
There ain’t nothing here for me anymore…
I think this lyric sums up my attitude to life in London at the moment.
Nicki Minaj featuring Rihanna – Fly
I came to win, to fight, to conquer, to thrive
I came to win, to survive, to prosper, to rise
To fly
To fly
M.I.A – Paper Planes
I fly like paper, get high like planes
If you catch me at the border I got visas in my name
If you come around here, I make ’em all day
I get one down in a second if you wait
Alicia Keys – The Gospel
I saw Alicia Keys back in May and I’ve been singing the lyrics to this song since… The song reminds me of how I felt in New York and the piano medley is comparable to lullaby feel to Frank Ocean’s Pink and White. It’s a great solo travel song if you’re a millennial like me and on this path to be self-made and successful.
Halsey – Drive
This song reminds me so much of L.A and encapsulating feel that the West Coast gives off. My friend recommended Halsey to me and I’m so glad he did – Halsey’s voice is dark, gritty and the themes in her songs remind me of Lana Del Rey.
Rihanna – Lost in Paradise
Exactly where you wanna be when you’re abroad – in Paradise.
Drake featuring T.I and Swizz Beats – Fancy
Nothing like getting pampered before and on your travels to make you feel special… You fancy huh…
Beyonce – 6 Inch
My love for this Bey song is summed up in my Lemonade review here – but this song just inspires me to be a go getter so I’ll have people chasing after me one day like… go get her.
Frank Ocean featuring Beyonce – Pink & White
Much like Jakatta’s ‘American Dream’ and Alicia Key’s ‘The Gospel’, there is something about this Frank Ocean song that leaves me feeling so motivated, happy and inspired. The combination of Frank Ocean’s perfect R&B harmonies and Beyonce’s dulcet tones are perfect for drifting off into the clouds. This also makes a great song to wake up to as it isn’t OTT and aggressive.
Beyoncé – Upgrade U
Thought I would add this as we can all hope we’ll be upgraded from economy to First Class… one can hope.
I hope you enjoyed this list – let me know your favourite travel songs by commenting below or on Twitter.
