I like to think I’ve picked up a few knacks for budget beauty travel over the years when it comes to travelling and I thought I’d share a few of my favourite products and hacks with you. You’ll have enough change left over for the champagne bar at the airport after all…
SAMPLES
Whether you find them in magazines, get handed them at train stations or sign up for them online, I highly recommend keeping a box full of samples.
If you’re travelling hand luggage only, they definitely come in handy, especially small perfume samples, as they let you try a new scent and won’t get thrown away when your bag goes through security.
BOTTLE IT UP
All those mini sets you get for Christmas and like me probably wince at cos yet again another Soap and Glory giftset… but now I’m forever grateful. The mini bottles come in handy trip after trip, as they are the perfect size for city breaks. To keep costs down, I recommend buying huge bottle of shower gel and using this to decant from every time you go away. And whilst some may frown upon this and thing it’s wasteful, the miniatures you get in hotels are a godsend. I am the type to take them day after day and add them to my samples collection when I get home.
MAKE ME UP
I am currently in the process of packing for a 9 day trip to Los Angeles d Vegas (again, I know), and I’m seriously wondering how I will cope without all my make up? The funny thing is, once the sun clears up my hyperpigmentation, I only reach for mascara so I regret bringing it all anyway. But for nighttime, I do like a versatile palette that has shimmers, mattes and darks that doesn’t take up much space but is super pigmented. There are some great options here.
If you ever happen to wonder into a Sephora on your travels, they do some brilliant sets of perfume, mascaras, and just about everything else. They come in adorable minatures, meaning you can slot a few more products in and not worry about losing a full-size one. Is it more, or is everything so much cuter when it’s miniature?
SKINCARE
Whenever I travel, I tend NOT to stray away from my skincare routine BUT aim to listen to it instead. When I went to NYC last year, my skin was SO dry. Like Sahara desert dry. I listened to my skin and headed to Kiehl’s and stocked up on an intense moisturiser. Not only that, I wondered if I’d been drinking enough water (probably not), so with hindsight, listening to your skin on your travels will make you understand what you need or what you need to cut out.
When it comes to budget beauty for travelling, opt for samples, miniatures, listen to your skin and ADAPT. Obviously, each destination is different with different weather patterns, so make sure you research this before you go and don’t skip the SPF.
