I travel a lot, and it can be hard to have a regular hair care routine if you’re always changing the climate it is in. These are a few tips I have compiled over the years.
Summer Summer Summertime
Time to sit back and unwind
Or sit back and wonder how you’ll protect your hair from the effects of the sun? Summer is probably the worst way to damage your hair, so here are a few tips to keep your locks under bay:
- Cover up – Hats, plaits, headscarves, this is the time to get creative.
- Loose styles – No one wants a slicked up bun in 40 degree heat do they? Plus imagine all the product cooking on your head. Loosen it up and embrace the breeze… if there is any!
- Sunscreen for your hair – Protect your hair and the colour from those harmful UV rays, unless you want a balayage of course.
- Conditioner, conditioner and some more conditioner – Thank me later!
Winter is coming
It’s coming up to Winter across the Western hemisphere but some destinations suffer from a perennial winter no matter what. That means you need to wrap up warm and so does your hair. I don’t mean wearing a hat 24/7 but making sure implement a good hair care routine to inject shine back into it. The lack of moisture in the air means your hair is more prone to dry scalp and flakes, so I’d recommend coating your hair in olive oil for 20-30 minutes once or twice a week. Not only is it affordable, it leaves a gorgeous shine and makes your brittle locks soft and manageable.
Spring is Sprung and Pumpkin Season…
Autumn, much like Spring, can confuse your hair, so in order to remnants of Summer from your hair, try a clarifying shampoo to remove any product build up. This must only be used on non-colour treated hair though as it can strip the colour from dyed hair.
As mentioned in my post here, seasons and climates change constantly according to where you are and global warming, so hair (grammatical error intended) are a few of my tips:
- Implement Weekly treatment as part of your hair care routine is great for dry, frizzy hair.
- Change up your hair care routine as the weather changes.
- Listen to your hair (Sounds stupid I know). Could it be the environment? Or is your diet? Anything else?
- Don’t be afraid to mix oils together – e.g I use argan oil for shine and the keratin oil for hydration.
- A little goes a long way unless you’re leaving the product in overnight.
- Mix oils in with conditioner for soft locks.
What are your hair care tips for around the world? What season does your hair cope best in?
