My Goal
I’ve written about saving money on my blog a fair few times. whilst I should really take my own advice and stop spending altogether, it’s hard. I’m tempted by the ‘treat yo self’ mantra which seems to be every day, but now it’s time to take back the reigns and sort out my life… again.
This probably sounds ridiculous, but I want to retire at 40. I AM going to retire at 40; I have to speak it into existence, right?
Can I really be doing the whole London life for another 3,000 years? No. I want to be sailing around the Amalfi Coast with by glucose guardian enjoying life…
How?
- Eating out cheaply by using discount codes, vouchers and not going out during ‘peak’ times.
- Finding free things to do in London or just sitting in coffee shops to do work and people-watching.
- Making use of Eventbrite. Hello free wine and schmoozing.
- Deleting all shopping apps off my phone… or just turning off notifications or looking for discounts if I really need something. The next point should make sense.
- Selling my skills. I’m a writer and I have experience across other fields too, so get in touch to find out more.
- Stop getting distracted by the moment and remember to think long-term. That NYC penthouse isn’t going to buy itself (sadly).
- Buying what I need vs. what I want.
I’m really hoping I look back on this blog post in 15 years time thanking myself for making these small changes. May I say ‘NO’ for the rest of 2018.

This is an excellent post — I’m going to check out eventbrite and keep an eye on that for bargains and cheap days out. Thanks for the recommendation!

My tips for saving is asking myself ‘do I actually need it? or will it be left collecting dust?’ asking myself that when I go to treat myself is something I always ask myself now. Great post.

This is something I’m definitely guilty of saying and never being able to stick to. It sounds like you have some really solid goals that are going to help motivate to keep a tight grip on your money, so good luck! I deleted all the shopping apps off my phone because I get super impulsive, and that’s not very good when you don’t actually have an income, so I agree with you on that one. I hope your business selling your services goes well!

It’s so helpful to list all the ways to make a goal a reality 💕. Money saving is something I need to work on too! Your tips seem very sensible to me! Deleting shopping apps is a great way to avoid temptation and voucher codes can save so much money. Good luck with your savings plan and thanks for sharing your ideas! 💕😘 xx

I feel the same, but it seems like I go through periods of “treat yourself”, like I’ll go on week long shopping sprees and then nothing for months.. but like you this has got to change (for the better)!

I’m trying to save money for a house at the minute but I am always saying ‘I’ll just treat myself to this’ I know I should be saving but sometimes it’s so hard!! I’ve started keeping a mental list of things I want in my head and then I’ll think about it again a few weeks later and see if I still want/need it or if it would have been an impulse buy which I probably would have regretted wasting money on!
